Adoption

Cody and I have decided to pursue adoption. Adoption is something that has been on our hearts since our second child was born. At the time we didn't meet the age requirements of the agency we contacted and decided that maybe it wasn't time. So, over the years we have prayerfully awaited the oppurtunity to try again. We've had two more biological children since then and we still hope for more.

The idea of adoption is much more fun than the reality. We are educating ourselves about the sober realities that we will face, seeking wise counsel from godly people, studying the scriptures, and trusting in God as he moves our hearts and directs our steps. We don't expect that this will be easy. We seek for God to be glorified as we graft another life into our family.

Some people are very happy for us and super encouraging. Others are nervous or fearful but nevertheless, supportive. We ask that you pray for us and for this child whom we have not met. All things are in God's hands. If this is not meant to be, the doors will be closed and we can trust Him in that, too. We know that, "the heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his step." Also,we are, "...created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." -Eph. 2:10

Our relationship with God is described as adoption in Romans. We were adopted while we were yet sinful and hateful and against the nature of God. We were grafted in. We were shown mercy and grace, love and kindness. We are told to defend and help the fatherless. We are to imitate our God and to be a reflection of what we have been shown. Not every family is called to adopt and how each person cares for the weak and needy, the widows and orphans will look different.

May we glorify God as we walk in the works he has prepared for us. May we be content when his purposes are different than our plans. May we continually hold our plans before the Lord seeking his direction. May this adoption prove to be a good thing to our family, our children, and to a child whom we do not yet know.
